Theatre Comedy First for The SSE Hydro Following a Staggering 21 Shows of ‘Still Game: Live at The Hydro’
The SSE Hydro is celebrating its biggest event run at the venue since opening following Still Game’s record breaking 21 shows at the 13,000 capacity arena from 19th September until Friday 10th October.
Around 210,000 fans lapped up the unique blend of comedy genius written and performed by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill as the show saw the reunion of the original BBC television show cast, Jack and Victor alongside other Still Game favourites Winston, Isa, Tam, Navid, and Boabby.
Venue partners SSE and Scotrail ramped up their presence on the ground in and around the venue with some fabulous parody of the show and its characters. SSE constructed replica Clansman bars, Jack’s flat and Navid’s convenience store in the arena, whilst Scotrail aired some hilarious recorded messages from Jack and Victor at The Exhibition Centre station and used a variety of props and signage to replicate a ‘Craiglang’ look and feel.
John Langford, Director of Live Entertainment, The SSE Hydro and SECC said:
"STILL GAME: Live at The Hydro has been a phenomenal success. Comedy theatre is fast becoming a major part of our business and judging by the reaction to tickets going on sale and the numbers through the doors over the last few weeks there is clearly a massive appetite for comedy out there".
“We are also delighted with the collaborative approach from our commercial partners who played a part in making the run so memorable for fans.”
