With capacities ranging from the 3,000 seat SEC Armadillo to the 14,300 maximum capacity OVO Hydro, supported by a combination of flexible space in the SEC Centre, our venues are perfectly positioned to stage most sporting events.
Over the years, our sporting audience have enjoyed events such as Nitro Circus and Arenacross, Premier League Darts, Boxing, WWE and Harlem Globetrotters. We also introduced tennis to our sports portfolio in 2016 with ‘Andy Murray Live’, a charity tennis event.
In 2014 the SEC had its ultimate test as a key host venue for the 20th Glasgow Commonwealth Games, proving our versatility in staging sport. With weightlifting in the SEC Armadillo, boxing, judo, wrestling and netball in the SEC Centre and The OVO Hydro taking centre stage for Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, we are proud to have played such a prominent role in what the organisers hailed as ‘the best Games ever’.
Building on this success, the venue played host to the 2015 FIG World Gymnastics Championships, and the Artistic Gymnastics as part of the European Sports Championships. Early 2019, the venue hosted the televised six aside football event, Star Sixes The event was a huge success with Glasgow audiences and reached over 1.6million across the Sky TV network.
