There really is an exhibition for everyone at the SEC
From protective gloves to time machines, from cutting-edge fitness challenges to ancient Egyptian tombs, the SEC has become a place where exhibitions truly offer something for everyone. Across our three venues – the SEC Centre, the SEC Armadillo and the OVO Hydro – audiences of all ages and interests can find experiences that captivate, educate and inspire.
Consumer shows have evolved significantly in recent years. While still remaining a stimulating showroom to browse, sense and feel the quality of products, they have creatively added immersive experiences that engage visitors in new ways. Fitness enthusiasts challenge themselves at events like Hyrox while families marvel at model railway exhibitions, with generations sharing a beloved fascination for engineering and transport history.
Every year Comic-Con brings a playful mash-up of pop culture, where it's common to see the likes of Ghostbusters, characters from Stranger Things, and even the mighty Godzilla sharing a coffee with other pop culture icons from across the decades.
Craft shows, wedding fairs, homes and parenting shows, skilled dog exhibitions and education fairs sit alongside events for more niche communities, such as sneaker fans, card gamers, running enthusiasts, yoga gurus, and wine connoisseurs, proving there is a dedicated gathering for every passion, large or small. One-off cultural events such as the recent Tutankhamun immersive exhibition further reflect the SEC’s versatility as a venue.
The breadth of these experiences demonstrates just how far exhibitions have come. Our health and safety team – the key people behind the scenes of events – were even spotted grinning with delight at finding their ideal protective gloves at the recent Health and Safety Matters Live trade show. Moments like this underline the personal connections and practical benefits visitors to our exhibitions halls can gain – whether it’s a professional interest, a hobby, or simply a day out.
Visitor figures are approaching record levels, as shows increasingly focus on engagement, interactivity and shared experiences. Workshops, food offerings, live demonstrations and participatory activities transform a simple visit into a day-long adventure. This growing appeal is driven by our ability to cater to both global industries and local specialists. Alongside major energy events, we host focused trade exhibitions for sectors like low carbon tech and engineering, manufacturing, tourism, construction, food, drink and hospitality.
Over the last 40 years the campus has positioned itself as a place where a specialist, a family or a first-time visitor can each leave inspired, whether by discovering the latest innovations in transport infrastructure and engineering, attending an international cultural exhibition, or simply enjoying a shared experience with friends and family.
In a sector historically defined by commerce and industry, Glasgow's exhibitions are now about connection, entertainment and exploration. At the SEC, there is truly a show for everyone, and we like to think that our visitors are reminded that learning and discovery can happen in the most unexpected places – from the latest tech trends to the wonders of ancient Egypt.
