SEC records record 40,000 attendees at HYROX Glasgow
Six members of SEC team participate on home ground
The fourth HYROX Glasgow took place at the SEC on 11-15 March 2026 and was one of the biggest yet, with more than 40,000 people taking part or spectating across the five-day event. Among the 23,000 competitors were six members of the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) team, including Head of New Business for Exhibitions, Angela Smith, who first brought the event to the city in 2023 and competed for the first time.
Angela was joined by; Jacqueline Elder, Mark McElwain, Eilidh Buchanan, Kerry Halliday and Charlene Stafford who all swapped their day jobs at the SEC for a place at the start line in the globally renowned fitness race. The team have been busy with their training schedule and were well prepared to take on the challenge of the HYROX course.
HYROX has become a huge event in Glasgow’s sporting calendar and attracts athletes of all levels from across the UK and beyond. The indoor fitness event transforms the SEC into a high-energy arena that welcomes thousands of competitors and spectators to the city. Since its first event in 2023, HYROX Glasgow has attracted over 100,000 athletes and spectators which has been hugely beneficial for the Glasgow economy.
Angela Smith said: “Bringing HYROX to Glasgow has been an incredible opportunity for the SEC and the city, so taking part in the event myself felt really special. It’s been amazing to watch the event grow each year and witness the energy it brings to the venue, and I was eager to finally be on the other side of the start line.”
