Qdos Entertainment is the world’s largest pantomime producer and has been staging productions in the SEC Armadillo every year since 2010.

The company were attracted to the venue in the first instance by its capacity – 1,000 more than traditional Glasgow theatres – but their relationship with the SEC quickly blossomed. Qdos has staging panto down to a fine art comprising six days for build-up and rehearsals and a three-week open period, which is now attracting audiences of 60,000+ in Glasgow.

Past productions have featured David Hasselhoff in Peter Pan and John Barrowman in Aladdin.

Technical wizardry

The performances are as complex as any you are likely to find in drama or musical theatre with a good deal of technical wizardry, as Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment’s pantomime division explains.

He said, "There is a strong tradition of panto in Glasgow and we were delighted to find a venue in the city that could accommodate both our numbers and our high production values including space in the roof for a flying system.

“We love working with the SEC team and can’t speak highly enough of the experience."

The feeling is mutual according to SEC Live Entertainment Account Manager, Sue Verlaque. She said, “Qdos are hugely experienced in their field and it’s always a pleasure to work with them. They know exactly what they want, but I think it’s safe to say our knowledge of the local market has gone way beyond expectations.”

Harrison agrees, “The team have helped us take a highly targeted approach to marketing and we’ve been thrilled with the results.”
